This lovely set of 20 task cards includes differentiated multiplication word problems with an after-holiday winter theme. The task cards feature questions about playing in the snow, drinking hot chocolate, ice skating, and other winter activities. There are also many informational questions with facts about Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington. Valentine's Day is also the theme of some of the cards.
Also, to encourage students to really read the questions, there are a few problem which are solved using a different operation than multiplication, including three digit subtraction and simple division.
The multiplication problems can generally be solved by multiplying one digit numbers.
The answer sheet is included. (I encourage my students to check their work using a highlighter after they complete this at an independent math workshop rotation.)
This activity will challenge your students and involve critical thinking skills. It is aligned to the Common Core State Standards 3.OA.3, 3.0A.1, 3.NBT.2, and 3.OA.2
