Students cut out and glue 6 matching word problems, equations, and answers. This activity requires students to determine if multiplication or division should be used for each word problem, which can be very challenging. Each word problem is winter themed.
Students can complete this independently, in groups/centers, for homework, or for a graded assignment.
• To encourage higher order thinking, students could explain their reasoning for their equation choices, either verbally or written.
• Students can circle clue words that helped them determine the correct operation.
• Students can illustrate each word problem to “prove” what operation should be used.
• Students can create their own algebra match to swap with partners!
