This download is a series of Growth Mindset activities. This ten day unit is set up so that students complete one activity per day.
Your students will be presented with a problem and mission. The athletes at the Big Games are not performing well because they have fixed mindsets. Your students will need to complete a series of tasks to help the athletes grow. They will collect puzzle pieces after each activity and help save the Big Games.
For each activity, you will be provided with:
- Teacher lesson guide
- Student instructions
- Craft template or (one page coloring sheet for easy prep)
- “Good Job” letter and puzzle piece
In this resource, you will find:
*"What Makes a Good Athlete” Anchor Chart: Students will discuss with their peers about teamwork and sportsmanship. They will write words that describe good athletes and post them on the anchor chart.
*Opening Ceremony Activity: Students will complete a flip book by
reading passages from athletes and matching the correct picture with
each passage. Differentiated two ways (simple and more complex text).
*Hockey Activity: Students will sort through growth mindset and fixed mindset phrases. Students will assemble hockey craftivities to display their phrase sorts.
*Speed Skating Activity: Students will read a letter from an athlete and make a personal connection to the text. They will create a skate craftivity to display their writing. Differentiated two ways (simple and more complex text).
*Ski Jump Activity: Students will match motivational messages with the appropriate scenario. They will assemble ski craftivities to display their motivational messages/scenarios. Differentiated two ways (simple and more complex text).
*Bobsleigh Activity: Students will look at photographs and will make inferences about the pictures. They will assemble bobsleigh craftivities to display their inferences.
*Class Book Activity: Students will discuss and write about what they have learned about growth mindset. They will place their writing on an anchor chart. They will choose ideas from the anchor chart and create a class book that can be referred to for the rest of the school year.
*Let’s Grow Together Activity: Students will write about being a good teammate and about growth mindset. They will assemble hat craftivities to wear and share their thoughts and ideas.
*Closing Ceremony Activity: Students will put the puzzle pieces together and color coloring sheets to mark the end of the Big Games.
*Team Building Activities: Students will work together to complete a series of team building activities.
