For this cut-and-paste activity, students will identify 15 examples of figurative language: metaphor, simile, alliteration, personification, and onomatopoeia. There are 3 sentences containing examples of each term, and all of the sentences are themed to go along with the many fun events of the Winter Games. The sentences include actual terminology and references to some of the more obscure and interesting sports. The chart where the examples are pasted is even formatted to look a bit like the Olympic Rings.
This would be a great activity for formative practice with these 5 devices! It could be used as partner work, individual practice, homework, station work, or sub plans.
