Winter Olympics ~ Language Packet

This is the 2nd packet that I created to target a variety of language skills with an Olympic theme! Pairing language skills with seasonal and special events, such as the Olympics, is a great way to make language sessions, class activities, homework, and general lessons engaging and relevant! Each of the two different Olympic Language packets (also see Olympic Language - Go for the Gold) target a variety of skills in different ways.

A 43-page packet targeting various language skills:

**Olympic Vocabulary Identification: Match the Winter Olympic vocabulary word to the printed word/name. 10 rings with vocabulary (2 pages total).

**Olympic Sentences: Formulate Olympic-themed sentences with target words. One target word per ring. Can use on the paper/sheet ‘as is’ (toss a penny on the sheet, use the word that is closest, etc) or cut the rings apart and place in a bag or pile. Students can pick a ring and use the target word in a sentence. 42 rings with target words (3 pages total). Plus 1 Template page to add your own words!

**Scrambled Sentences: Scrambled words are on a grid. Sentences range from 6 words to 10 words in difficulty. Students must determine the correct word order to create an Olympic sentence. 3 sentences per page, 7 total pages = 21 total scrambled sentences. Plus 1 Template page to add your own words!

**Go for the Gold with Verb Tense: 1) Students need to change present and future tense verbs to the PAST tense (regular and irregular). 1 page of verbs in rings (9 rings); 2 pages of verbs on rings with lines to write sentences (5 rings with verbs on each page). 2) Students need to change past tense verbs to the future tense, 2 pages with 5 rings/verbs on each page. Plus 1 Template page to add your own words!

**Where is the Gold Medal?: Students must tell where the gold medal is in relation to other Olympic items. Concepts: between, under/below, over/above, next to, to the right of, to the left of, in front of, behind. 4 pages, 5 rings with medals per page = 20 targets total.

**Olympic Synonyms: Match words in rings to words that mean the same. All words have an Olympic theme, such as: cold (Winter Olympics are cold), spin (Figure Skaters spin), etc. 2 pages, 5 items each with a matching synonym per page.

**Olympic Antonyms: Match words in rings to words that mean the opposite. All words have an Olympic theme, such as: win/lose etc. 2 pages, 5 items each with a matching antonym per page.
Winter Olympics ~ Describing with Graphic Organizers: Students will describe Olympic items. One item per web/graphic organizer. 3 webs per page, 3 pages = 9 items total to describe.

**Tic-Tac Olympics: 2 Tic-Tac-Toe grids per page (2 pages = 4 total grids). Each grid has Olympic-themed vocabulary in each square. Play Tic-Tac-Olympics while students formulate sentences! Plus 1 Template page to add your own words!

**Score a Goal with Multiple Meaning Words: Students tell two different meanings for each word, they score a ‘goal’ for each set they identify/explain! 5 pages, 4 multiple meaning words on each page (20 total words). Plus 1 Template page to add your own words!

**Olympic Directions with a Grid: Students follow directions with a 9-square grid that has Olympic pictures. 2 pages—mixed Olympic pictures, 1 page—Hockey. 10 directions on each page.
