Description
This 5-6 day unit is based on the beautiful book and poem "Before Morning" by Joyce Sidman. It is a perfect winter themed poetry unit. It involves reading and interpreting the poem, exploring and writing metaphors, working as a class on a group wish poem and finally writing an independent invocation poem.
You will need the book for this unit, or be able to watch it online. "Book Look" on You Tube has a version of it that is quite good.
The unit includes a pack of detailed full page lesson plans with differentiated tasks for students outlined. It also includes 31 slides for presenting the lesson on an interactive whiteboard (these are saved as 'portrait' and so when opening in Adobe Reader, click 'View' and 'Rotate View'). Finally there are 25 pages of printable resources for use during the activities.
We hope your students produce some powerful poems! Enjoy.
