Here is a great 25 page resource to use with your 2nd-4th grade classes to reinforce important reading comprehension skills such as context clues, inferences, figurative language, character traits, sequencing, and compare/contrast.
Some of the activities require a children's book to complete (The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats and The Puppy Who Wanted a Boy by Jane Thayer).
There are also 12 task cards to practice using context clues to determine word meaning, 12 task cards for using clues to make inferences (great to use as a group activity), finding similes and metaphors using Owl Moon by Jane Yolen, determining character traits with The Puppy Who Wanted a Boy, using the QAR (Question Answer Relationship strategy) with The Puppy Who Wanted a Boy, sequencing the events of The Snowy Day, and reading information about three types of penguins to determine similarities and differences with a Venn diagram.
