Winter Rhythms is a matching game where students use picture cards to match words with rhythms. This game can be used as a music center, a whole-group activity, or as an activity for early finishers. This is a great tool for review or as a formative assessment.
Rhythms used are quarter note and barred eighth notes. Only the music symbols are present, so you can use this game with any method for speaking rhythms. Materials are in color and black and white.
Music Center: Students partner up to match the picture cards to the correct rhythms on the rhythm mat.
Whole-group Activity: Students are divided, with each holding either a picture or rhythm card. Then, students must race around the room to find their matches. "Wild" cards are also thrown in the mix!
