Just Updated on 12/03/15!
This product will add some fun to your classroom during the winter season while allowing students to learn about the scientific method! Students will be introduced to the scenario where Elsa is wanting to decorate her castle with beautiful homemade snowflakes. She would make these snowflakes using pipe cleaners and powdered laundry detergent (Borax). Students will identify a scientific question, predict what they think will happen, design a snowflake with their group, and work as a class to make a snowflake solution. The second day allows the students to observe what happened overnight and analyze results.
Scientific Equipment Considerations:
There are a few pieces of equipment that will be used that you might not have readily available in a 3-5 classroom but might possibly be borrowed from an older science classroom: 4 Hot Plates (or a microwave), (4) 600-mL glass beakers, (4) liquid measuring cups, 1/3 cup measuring scoop, (8) oven mitts or beaker tongs. Most other materials can easily be purchased at any grocery store.
