This BUNDLE of no-prep printables and differentiated task cards provides interactive, hands-on activities for composing and decomposing numbers through 10 with various combinations of rainbow snowballs. Use for small group instruction, math centers, concept review & practice, assessment, partner work, homework, independent work and whole-class games.

Resources include comprehensive notes for the teacher regarding features, general ideas for use, ideas for differentiation/scaffolding and detailed activity descriptions.

RAINBOW SNOWBALLS NO-PREP PRINTABLES include 8 fun and engaging learning activities that are ready to print and go with answer keys included. Students will need access to crayons, colored pencils or fine markers. Activities focus on composing and decomposing numbers within 10 as well as finding sums, differences and missing addends in equations within 10. Each page can be used as a no-prep, stand-alone activity or in combination with a work mat. Bonus work mats (colored and blackline) may be used to support or extend the learning activities with small colored pom pom balls as the rainbow snowballs.

RAINBOW SNOWBALLS TASK CARDS WITH A TWIST include 36 total task cards across three levels of activities: basic numeric problems, simple word problems with both addends and more advanced word problems with a missing addend. Students color Kai the Koala’s snowballs to match the pattern in each problem then write the equation to show the given combination from 3-10. Differentiated response sheets and leveled activities provide choice to meet your learning objectives and students’ needs.

Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 + ? = 11, 5 = ▯ - 3, 6 + 6 = ▯.
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 5 = 2 + 3 and 5 = 4 + 1).
Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, e.g., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds (e.g., claps), acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.
