Product Description
Winter Sports Research Guides for Grades K-5

This is part of my “Bite-Size Research Guides” series. These are designed to be completed in one or two class sessions. Great for the library media specialist who sees students weekly or classroom teachers who are in need of a research project that doesn’t require hours of time but is still educationally valuable. Included are four different versions of research guides featuring different competitive Winter Sporting events.
Please download the PREVIEW to see samples of the four different versions.

The first two sets of research guides use the “3-2-1 Strategy” concept. Students read informational texts (online or print) about the selected sport and write three facts that they learned about this sport, two opinions they have about this sport and one question that they would like to ask about the sport. This strategy does encourage deeper thinking and often leads to students wanting to learn more about these sports (particularly when they write down their questions!). The first set includes handwriting lines for younger learnings and the second set has no lines for older students.

The third version is designed for the very young researcher. It is a graphic organizer that uses the “Can, Use, Are” strategy.

The fourth version includes 6 different online encyclopedia research sheets for upper elementary students to research six different winter sports: figure skating, ice hockey, luge, skiing, snowboarding and bobsledding.

Our district has a paid subscription to World Book Online, which is an excellent informational text database for K-5 students. The encyclopedia research sheets I’ve included can be researched using World Book Online Student version. If you don’t have access to World Book online, you should be able to use these research sheets using print or other online resources that you have access to.
