Winter Wonders task cards focus on revisiting figurative language, couplets, and analogies. After teaching students about figurative language these cards give students the opportunity to recycle their skills and practice creating their own examples with a winter theme.
In this download, you will find mini posters (half sheets) for similes, idioms, analogies, alliteration, metaphors, couplets, personification, and hyperbole. Each mini poster has a definition and an example. Post these on a wall chart, bulletin board, or keep them in a writing center.
There are eight task cards that ask students to craft their own examples of six different types of figurative language along with analogies and a couplet. They can create their ideas on recording sheets that can be made into a Winter Wonders booklet.
Students can brainstorm topic ideas and creative word choice by completing the Winter Wonders Word Storm. A Word Jogger list is included as well. This list can be used as a writing resource to activate ideas and/or to foster strong winter images.
Based on student readiness, pick the tasks that work best for your students. Use Winter Wonders task cards as part of a writing center, as an anchor activity, or as a whole group activity.
Modify use to fit the needs of your students. Watch winter ideas come to life!
