What is your favorite part of winter? How would you create a free-standing representation to show it?
This STEM challenge compliments the study of seasonal change in an early elementary classroom. It asks the students to think about how people react to the changes in temperature and precipitation that often accompany winter, and to engineer a 3-D representation of their ideas. Required materials can be found in almost any classroom!
This download includes;
-background information about winter for students
-visuals of some common popular winter activities
-details of the challenge
-criteria for design
-space to design and plan
In the past, my students have really enjoyed expressing their seasonal knowledge through "craftivities", and it occurred to that with some simple tweaks we could make it STEM instead.
