Product Description
Common Core Aligned Activity for Vocabulary

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.Language: Distinguish shades of meaning among related words that describe states of mind or degrees of certainty.

This product can be adapted for many grade levels (mostly 1st through 5th grade).

With as much teacher modeling and guidance as needed, students work together or individually to "rank" the vocabulary word cards included in this product. There are four cards per set that are related to some degree. There may be subtle differences among meanings, but students are challenged to rank the words ranging from "most" to "least" in regard to intensity/power/etc. After classifying the words, students must justify and support their thinking. Sentence frames/verbal stems are included while introducing the skill. Once students become better, a brief writing frame is given for students to defend their thoughts on paper.

There is no right or wrong answer...as long as students can justify their thinking!

In this product there is:
1 cover sheet
1 credits/directions page
2 response templates
8 sets of word cards (A-H)

Vocabulary Themes:
Winter weather adjectives
Valentine's Day feeling actions
Valentine's Day adjectives
Snow adjectives

*I will be blogging about this activity in the near future to show how it should look in a classroom setting. Check my blog for updates!*

Thanks and Enjoy!
