Pick, Say, Keep-Students place cards face down in a pile. Students take turns taking a card from the top of the pile. If they are able to say the letter, they get to keep it. The student with the most cards at the end wins.
Go Fish—Play like traditional Go Fish game.
Concentration-Make two sets of cards, choose the letters you want students to work on, place the cards face down, students then take turns matching cards. Variation—place one set of capitol letters and one set of lower case letters and have the students match using the two sets.
What’s Next?—students will pick a card and write the letter that comes next. Set 2 students will pick a card and write what comes before. Set 3 Students will pick a card and write what comes before and after.
Roll, Say, Keep—students each get a game board. Depending on the skill they are working on they each get 6 cards –Set 1 letters A-Z, Set 2 beginning sounds, Set 3 ending sounds. Students take turns rolling a dice. Students look at the card that is in the number space they rolled. If they know the letter or sound they get to keep the card. If they do not know it then it stays on the board. Winner is the first to clear their card.
Middle Sound Candy Students will pick a card and decide which gingerbread house to place it on depending on the middle sound.
Spin a word—students will spin for the beginning letter then they will spin for a word family. Students will record their spins on the handout and then make the new word. Students will lastly illustrate the new word.
