5 interactive work mats
5 sets of word family cards
5 recording sheets
How to Make: (Teacher Instructions)
-Print & Laminate work mats (I glued them to colored cardstock before laminating for extra sturdiness)
-Print & Laminate word family card sets (I copied mine on colored paper to match their work mats.—Helps prevent mix-ups between students at the same table.)
-Print and Copy recording sheets for student use (extension activity/assessment)
-I also poked 3 holes in each work mat for paperclip placement so that their cards don’t slip away.
How to Use: (Student Instructions)
-Pick a Winter Word Family Mat.
-Use matching Word Family cards to find REAL or NONSENSE words,
-Place cards one at a time on the top portion of the mat and sound out the word.
-If the card makes a REAL word, place it on the “happy” stack at the bottom of the mat.
-If the card makes a NONSENSE (or silly) word, place it on the “sad” stack at the bottom of the mat.
-When you finished sorting the cards into REAL and NONSENSE stacks, start the recording sheet.
-On the recording sheet, write down a REAL word you found in each square.
-Then, draw a picture to match.
-IF you don't know what the word is, it might be a nonsense word. Don’t forget to double check your work!
