This product is a for a set of 12 multiple-choice word problems with a winter theme. They include addition, subtraction, and multiplication word problems. The problems are a mix of one and two-step word problems.
In my own classroom, I have printed out 2 copies of each set. In class, pass out the cards to students. They walk around and find the other student who has the same card number as them. The pair sits down together and solves the problem. Repeat and share when finished.
I have found that it turns somewhat monotonous word problem practice into an engaging, fun activity.
I have also used them in an independent math center.
An answer key is included for easy grading.
This activity is aligned with the 3rd Grade CC Objectives:
CCSS.Math.Content.3.OA.A.3 Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
CCSS.Math.Content.3.NBT.A.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
and the 4th Grade CC Objectives:
CCSS.Math.Content.4.OA.A.2 Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison.
CCSS.Math.Content.4.NBT.B.4 Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
