This Winter Unit is a collection of 9 stations plus several bonus activities that help students use and apply phonics skills in a winter theme. This unit goes great with all your fabulous winter stories!
This pack includes a student choice board with files and directions for accompanying station activities. All activities print PERFECTLY in black and white or color!
These stations are designed to be used for one week where students select one station per day or could also be used for two weeks in which all stations will be completed by the end of the two week period.
The open nature of the activities allows for differientiated levels to be met with your students while working on the same concept.
Station 1: My Winter Fun Book: Students draw a picture and write a sentence about things they like to do in the winter time. Examples: Drink hot chocolate, ice skate, sit by the fire, make s’mores etc...
Station 2: Winter Matching: Students match the winter pictures to the matching words. Teacher Note: Teachers may laminate and make a few games for students to share or each student could have their own game set.
Station 3: Word Search: Students will illustrate the pictures and find them in the word search, then write a sentence.
Station 4: How to Build a Snowman: Use transitional words to create a functional
Station 5: Roll a Category: Students will roll a die and fill in the correct category using a winter word. The first friend to fill in all the categories wins!
Station 6: Stamp and Write: Students will stamp the beginning sounds then write the winter themed words.
Station 7 Season Sort: Have students sort the pictures onto the correct season
column. Have students label their pictures after they sort.
Station 8: Back to Back Game: Students sit back to back with a partner. They draw a card from the bag. They give clues to their partner to help them guess the winter word on the card. Teacher may laminate and cut apart several copies of this game for students to share or each student could have their own set of words/pictures to take home.
Station 9: Snowman Craftivity: Make an edible snowman out of marshmallows, pretzel sticks, Air Head Extremes (scarf), food color dot for eyes, candy corn for nose or create a snowman using paint or classroom materials. Then write a story about a snowman.
CHALLENGE: Stations 1 and 4 have additional pages that use the same activity but with HIGHER skill levels needed to complete them.
FREEBIE:ABC Order: Students cut out the letter tiles and glue them onto their ”Snowman ABC” board. You can also laminate the tiles and the “Snowman ABC” board and reuse from year to year.
