Winter Word Work Game
In this word work activity/game, students will practice building words using their knowledge of phonics, spelling patterns and the ability to use pictures as clues. This game is meant to be used either in a teacher led small group or as an independent word work center. This is a four player game.
Included you will find:
*There are 4 Winter Boards, however each board has two sets, one blank (for students who want/need to be challenged with spelling) and filled in (for students who need that extra assistance.)
: Take one set (both the blank and filled in boards with identical words) and attach them to either side of construction paper, then laminate. This eliminates the confusion of students accidentally selecting the same board.
*83 tiles (80 letter tiles and 3 Bonus tiles. The bonus tiles are free tiles and can be used for ANY letter on a board.)
*Instructions for students on how to play the game. I usually laminate the directions to a large envelop and store the game inside.
*Print and laminate boards for durability.
*Print tiles on cardstock, laminate and cut out.
***Optional***Laminate directions to large envelope and store game inside.
*Students pick appropriate board (blank or filled) and lay out all the tiles upside down in the middle of the table.
*Students take turns picking a tile and looking to see if the letter is needed on their winter words. If so, then s/he will place it on the board. If not, then the tile is placed back in the middle of the table. (If a student picks a bonus tile, this can be used for ANY letter on their board.)
*First one with all their words spelled out, wins!
Hope you have a great time with this activity! My kiddos really enjoy playing it.
