Winter Write the Room (Addition to 5) ---
This resource includes four pages of addition problems in color with a total of 20 addition cards. The numbered cards have images of mugs with snowflakes on them for each addend, using pictures instead of numbers. These equations include sums to 5. All sums are 5 or less.
Teachers should copy the addition cards on cardstock (for durability and saving for future years) or plain paper, laminate (if desired), cut apart, and then post the addition cards around the room. If you don't want students walking around the room, the addition cards can be put in a center or in a pocket chart.
Depending on how many cards you want to use, you can post/use numbered cards 1-10, 11-20 or both.
There are two types of recording sheets to provide for differentiation.
Both sets have two recording sheets. One is for addition cards 1-10 and one is for addition cards 11-20. Students can complete one or both recording sheets when they are in their center.
Recording Sheets #1:
Students will roam the room to find the numbered addition cards. After finding a card, students write the sum of the mugs in the box on the recording sheet. Example: Addition card number one has zero mugs for the first addend and five mugs for the second addend, so students will write the number (numeral) 5 on their recording sheet in the number one box.
Recording Sheets #2:
Students will roam the room to find the numbered addition cards. After finding a card, students write the entire equation (addends and sum) in the box on the recording sheet. The recording sheet has a plus sign and two blanks for the addends and a blank for the sum. Example: Addition card number one has zero mugs for the first addend and five mugs for the second addend, so students will write this equation (0+5=5) on their recording sheet in the number one box.
Answer keys are provided for both sets of recording sheets either as a self-check for students or for the teacher to have an answer key to quickly check papers.
***There are 12 total pages including four pages of answer keys: 4 addition card pages, 4 recording sheets, and 4 answer keys to the recording sheets.
The PREVIEW shows every page included.
This activity is great for a math center.
I hope your students have fun with this "Write the Room" activity for addition to 5.
