Students will acquire new vocabulary and utilize the writing process to plan, edit, and publish writing pieces.
Engage and motivate your students during their writing center this February! My monthly writing stations can be used anywhere in your classroom – even on the go. All your materials can be stored inside one crate, making this center perfect for anyone with limited space.
Your writing center comes with thematic vocabulary cards, planning pages, writing paper, labeling sheets, and sequencing pages. To setup your center, choose your word card format and place them on a ring or in an album. Then print the papers of your choice to add to folders or a binder. Finally, add your own writing tools (pencils, pens, clipboards, etc.) and your students will have everything they need!
Can you tell me more about the thematic vocabulary cards?
You have the option to print the thematic words in one of two formats. You can choose the word cards, which fit into a small photo album (4x6) or you can print the word strips, which fit nicely on a ring.
Either way, the words are mobile and easily accessed by your students. The 50 thematic words included in the February writing center focus on Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, Presidents Day, and dental health.
What pre-writing tools are included with this resource?
Each month includes the same 12 planning pages for students. These pre-writing tools focus on narrative, informative, and opinion writing. The opinion planning pages come with optional picture choices. You can also designate what the students are giving their opinion on.
My students have writing journals, do I need to use the included writing paper?
No, the various writing paper options in your download are completely optional. There are traditional pages included with space for a picture and lines, as well as just lines. There are also themed writing papers.
Not all my students are ready to write stories. How can I utilize this resource?
Your students can use the included writing paper to practice writing words or sentences. You also receive 5 picture prompts and 4 labeling pages each month. These match the thematic words for the month.
How are the papers lined?
The entire station is available with and without handwriting lines (perfect for K-1 students!). Both versions are included in this download.
What sequencing activity is included with this resource?
There are two thematic how-to interactive writing pages included. These will help students work on sequencing and informative writing. This section also includes a page with words students may need to use when completing their how-to pieces and sequential posters (or cut apart for sequencing cards). You can also purchase the sequencing pages separately.
