Wisdom Nuggets are quotes and sayings collected from the four corners of the globe and the recesses of time to convey the compiled wisdom of humans on various and sundry subjects.
Especially as the scholars begin to understand the universality of literature and themes, this resource will help them see how we are all connected by experience, good and bad, and how we have things to teach each other.
This booklet is to be a resource for the scholar as she/he searches for meaningful “wisdom nuggets” to commit to memory over the course of the year.
First Quarter = One quote/saying
Second Quarter = Two quotes/sayings
Third Quarter = Three quotes/sayings
Fourth Quarter = Four quotes sayings.
The scholar will recite his/her chosen quotes at the end of each quarter, and the recitation will be cumulative. That is, successful recitation (verbatim with correct reference) of the current quarter’s quotes will earn the scholar a B to a B+. In order to earn an A, the scholar must recite all the previous selections, as well, verbatim with the correct references.
As the scholar researches and collects her/his quotes, she/he must honor the following parameters:
1. Must be new to the scholar; she/he can’t recall an old quote from memory.
2. Must be attributable; no “anonymous,” or “Old Proverb” entries allowed.
(ex.: “The early bird catches the worm” is not sufficient)
3. Must be real; may be light-hearted, but cannot just be a gag, joke or one-liner.
4. Must be meaningful to the scholar in some way; she/he should be able to tell why this quote matters to her/him, why it’s worth memorizing.
I encourage scholars to stretch themselves in acquiring “wisdom nuggets.” They should not be afraid to pass the simpler ones and take on longer pieces; brevity is important, but is not the only measure of a good quote.
Please note: this is a FREE offering. I do not have the rights to sell this material, as the quotations themselves are not mine and I have not done the due diligence with the various estates. I offer this resource as a courtesy to interested instructors to save them the time of compiling and formatting this amount of material themselves.
