This comprehension packet for Wishbone's Be A Wolf! is wonderful to use in October when we are learning about courage, but it would be good to use year round! (While Halloween actually has NOTHING to do with this story, we find that it is a good way to have some "Halloweenish" content without reading about witches or zombies!)
Of course, Wishbone books help students learn the story lines of classic literature in a fun way, so reading them is a great way to expand the worlds of our students. This corresponds with the Anglo Saxon story, Beowulf, which they will likely read when they are older.
This comprehension packet will help your students think critically about what is being read while working on vocabulary. There are opportunities for artwork, practice with prefixes, suffixes, alliteration, character analysis, inference, prediction, description, comparison and contrast, graphic organizers, and a lot of writing!
There is even an opportunity to work on poetry skills in a basic Anglo Saxon way, and a prompt to re-enact one of the battle scenes!
Students often say that some of the comprehension packets we have bought do not have enough space provided for written responses, so THIS one has plenty of space is provided to encourage thorough written responses!
Copies of the packet can be completed by individual students as well as pairs or small groups. With comprehension questions and activities for each chapter, you are ready to simply print and teach!. Students simply read, THINK, and respond. You will find an answer key in included to help simplify the busy teacher's life!
We hope you love this as much as we do,
