The sorting game should be given as a discovery learning activity. In the beginning, ask the students what they think the word scholar means and have them TPS. Then you will give partners or table groups a bag of the pictures to sort. Tell them that you want them to have two different piles, one that they think is a scholar and one that they think is not a scholar. The point of the game is for them to discover the difference from being a scholar and not being a scholar. Give them Lark and Cal as examples of who is a scholar in the beginning of the story ( Lark is a scholar and Cal is not). After they have sorted, discuss the definition of scholar and let the children give you examples from the piles they made.
