Introduce or review the “at” word family by creating words using a witch’s hat with a changing hat buckle.

Students learn and write the “at” words on their own witch hat.
3. Bat Real/Nonsense Words Worksheet
Students roll a letter dice that will make real and nonsense words when added to “at”, determining which words are real and which are nonsense.
4. Cinderhazel Large Group Activity - Venn Diagram
During large group time, read the book Cinderhazel by Deborah Nourse Lattimore. (This cute story is the Halloween version of Cinderella.) This is a thematically designed Venn Diagram to compare and contrast Cinderhazel to Cinderella.
5. Cinderhazel Individual Activity
Students trace shape patterns to create their own Cinderhazel by cutting and gluing or taping, then adding descriptive words. (A photo example and outline template are included.)
6. Bat Measuring Math Center
In this activity, students use bats to measure the classroom items and record their results.
7. Spooky Patterns - Color Option
Students cut and paste colorful pictures to extend the pattern.
8. Spooky Patterns - Black-and-White Option
Students cut and paste pictures to extend the pattern, then color the patterns themselves.
9. Spooky Segmenting Large Group Activity
Students use sound counters and Jack-O-Lantern sheet to count sounds of fall-themed words introduced by the teacher.
This activity can also be used in a literacy center as a review/reinforcement of counting sounds.

Students cut and use letters to make as many new words as they can.
