Stir up some fun this Halloween season with a home-made witch’s brew. Students will get excited about concocting their own recipes of weird ingredients and fun math facts.
Students solve multiplication facts and write in missing numbers and ingredients in Watilda the Wacky Witch's Brew Recipe. Then they create their own recipe for a brew. Included is a list of possible ingredients to get them started, a list of measurement words for labeling portions, and a list of verbs that are very helpful in cooking up a delicious dish. Students write their list of ingredients, then have fun writing math facts for the number of scoops, handfuls, cups, smidgeons, or sprinkles. The next step is to write step-by-step directions telling how each item is to be added to the cauldron and how long it must boil and bubble. Final copies are written on a page-size outline of cauldron, and then can be cut out and added to a decorated background for a spectacular bulletin board or hall display.
This is a simple, but really engaging activity that will take advantage of the holiday excitement in your classroom.
