When I began teaching spelling seemed to be the most unmanageable part of my classroom. With all the other demanding parts of my day it seemed something as simple as spelling shouldn’t be so hard. Word study however is a complicated topic. Where I didn’t want to take the traditional route and just memorize words; I also found Word’s their Way to be complicated and overwhelming.
In today’s world teachers want simplicity! At the same time we want something that teaches students important concepts; not just memorization. This resource is designed for teachers looking for a simple but developmentally appropriate spelling program.
The program is broken down into twenty-nine weeks. The first four weeks focus on sight words and then later focus on important vowel combinations, phonemic and phonological concepts. Each week contains two student lists, a place for students to sort their words and a personal word sort. Students can glue their lists into their notebooks, agendas or other study areas. The sort can be used in an interactive notebook or as an assessment.
Alongside these lists is a student word study notebook. This allows students to work with their words! Enjoy these resources and teach on
