This set of activities is from Unit III- sorts 13-18, Common Long-Vowel Patterns (CVCe AND CVVC). Each sort contains the following activities:

Word List: for quick student access to the sort words, three copies per page
Flashcards: cards for each word, and each pattern heading. These can be used for individual or whole group practice, to sort the words according to vowel sound and pattern.
Color Sort: each pattern heading is designated a color. Students use coloring utensils to color each word the same color as the pattern heading. (answer key included)
Synonym Search: ten of the sort words are in a word bank, and students must match the sort word with a synonym provided. For extra practice, students may also list an antonym of the given word. (answer key included)
Definition Dive: students are given words from the sort that they are to define. You may allow students to use a resource to find the definitions, or use their own words to define. You may also want the students to find the part of speech for each word, as an extra focus.
Create a Sentence: students use words from the sort to create a sentence, using the word correctly.
Cut & Sort: Students cut out the words from the bottom of the page and paste them in the appropriate pattern heading. (answer key included)
Writing Sort: This is the final assessment piece given for each sort. Treat this as a spelling test, with teacher reading each word aloud and then using it in a sentence. Students should spell the word correctly, and put it in the correct column. Assess each word as 2 points, one for correct spelling, and one for correct column. (answer key included)

** Each activity includes a BONUS CHALLENGE. This is great for early finishers and high achievers, as there are higher level extensions for each activity. I don’t require all students to finish these bonus challenges, and I don’t usually give ‘extra credit’ for the work. Use this bonus challenge feature at your discretion.
