I love reading! I also want my students to enjoy reading every day. Plus, I want to enjoy teaching reading. Through teacher instruction and experience, I have found genre-based instruction to be the most successful for learners. Genre-based instruction is engaging and offers SO many teaching opportunities. So many, in fact, my head was spinning with which books to use and which strategies to use with what titles. Ahhh!
This unique unit connects traditional literature with informational texts all about Wolves! This unit connects the Chinese tale, Lon Po Po (Little Red Riding Hood) to informational texts about wolves. The activities for the informational texts can be used with any informational texts (books and/or Internet documents).
This NO PREP unit includes 1-2 weeks of WOLVES themed reading and writing! This unit includes book suggestions, lesson plans, and interactive activities for reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This paired text approach easily connects all of the elements of literature to informational texts. Students will study author’s purpose, elements of literature, and text features of informational texts through both a literature study and a research project.
I hope you and your students enjoy this wolves themed unit!!
