Over one hundred fifty years ago it was next to impossible for a woman to succeed in the art world. Many women today are still met with some of the prejudices left over from a predominantly male art world.
It is the intention of Women in Art to expose students to five specific women (Mary Cassatt, Rosa Bonheur, Susan Doyle, Georgia O'Keeffee, Beatrix Potter) who did succeed in the art world, through sheer will, perseverance, and determination. These women were the major force behind the doors opening into the art world.
Also included in the unit is a Women in Art Test, Match the Artist, Art - Crossways, Research Tidbits, and Answer Keys.
