Teachers can create wonderful opportunities for students to immerse themselves in the details of novel study, plot details, theme, and characterization by allowing students to act out events from the novel. In the activities included in this lesson, teachers can select multiple reasons for students to act out specific content from a novel, short story, or play.
In Groups of 3-6 students (depending on class size), teachers will instruct students that they will be perform short skits based on specific content from a selected text. Depending on the timeframe that the teacher is expecting students to complete the activity within, the assignment could be completed within one period, over the course of multiple periods, for homework, etc.
Once the teacher has selected the amount of time that they wish to dedicate to the preparation and presentation of skits, they can introduce the activity to the students and explain the rationale and the rubric that students will be evaluated by. Teachers can determine how to assess the activity based on the specific content that they are looking for the students to comprehend.
