This free introductory ELA reading comprehension test for pages 3 - 44 for the novel Wonder was designed for, and successfully used in regular and inclusion fifth grade classrooms.
This test includes a character list study guide for students, the answer key for teachers and modified sections. The test is made up of 16 multiple choice questions; 7 sequencing questions; 8 true/false questions; 10 matching, and 6 fill in the blank (with a word box), a total of 47 questions. The test is easy to correct and provides an accurate tool to check student’s understanding of the material.
All modified questions are in the sequencing and character identification portion of the test and are on separate pages. The word modified only appears on the teacher’s answer keys. Therefore, you will have to sort these pages out when printing your test.
In keeping with the Common Core Standards, page numbers are provided for most questions and students are encouraged to use the text to find their answers. Teachers who do not want their students to use the text may also use this test. The questions are designed to test: finding the main idea; recognizing cause and effect; recalling facts and details; comparing and contrasting; understanding sequence; making predictions; finding word meaning in context; identifying author’s purpose; drawing conclusions and making inferences; interpreting figurative language; summarizing; and understanding metaphors.
Experience proved that our more competent students successfully answered many of the questions using recall, while less competent students relied heavily on using the provided page numbers and the text, making these tests a useful tool to help the overall student population become more confident readers.
The complete reading comprehension unit for this book will be available by the end of August, 2015. This is a free sample for pages 3 – 44 of the vocabulary unit. The complete unit covers the entire book.
