Wonder by R.J. Palacio is one of my absolute favorite books to read with my class! This novel teaches empathy and the power and importance of understanding different perspectives.
Use this comprehensive reader's guide to close reading to move through part 1 (Auggie's Perspective),part 2 (Via's perspective), Part 3 (Summer's Perspective and Part 4 (Jack's Perspective) with your class or guided reading group!
Students are asked to put themselves in Auggie's shoes through answering tough questions about kindness as well as writing first person journal entries.
Students then move on to Via's perspective and may begin to notice the different language Via uses, which sparks a wonderful conversation on how different perspectives change the way we, as readers, understand stories and then on to read from Summer and Jack Will's perspectives!
