New to the Wonders Reading Program? I have created a writing extension for each day. These correlate with the different stories, poems, and interactive read-alouds used in the Wonders series. Each writing prompt has the unit, week, and day listed in the top right corner to keep you organized! Some of the writing extensions are created for partners to complete, which aligns well with the collaboration piece of Common Core.
The different types of writing included with this product are:
1. sequential writing with marker words first, next, then, and last
3. graphic organizers
4. list making
6. topic sentence, supporting sentences, and conclusion
7. expository writing
8. biography writing
9. Venn diagrams
10. problem-solution writing
11. cause-effect writing
***Please note that the summary writing extensions ask the students to use the organizer to complete their summary. My summary organizer is in my store to download for free!
I have created and used all of these in my classroom, with first graders, and the students love them! I model a lot of my writing prompts before the students complete them, especially when learning a new type of writing.
Many of these writing extensions also lend well to partner work, even if I doesn't say to complete it with a partner. Many of the problem-solution organizers and Venn diagrams lead to wonderful discussions amongst partners.
These are the writing extensions for Unit 5 (weeks 1-5). Please note that there are not writing extensions for day 5 because of the reading comprehension tests that your students will be completing on these days. Wonders has projects that can be worked on during day 5.
