Product Description
This handout is based on the 3rd grade McGraw-Hill Wonders reading series. This resource was designed to be a quick daily writing activity to supplement the Wonders program. This download includes all the paragraph writing practice for the entire year for Units 1-6. I have designed it to be completed in 4 days each week. That will give you an extra day during the week in case your students need more time to complete one of the activities or in case you would like to use the extra day for students to share their paragraphs with the class.

Once students have completed the guided paragraph, you could always expand the activity by having them write additional paragraphs to make an essay. Each week's handout is two pages (I usually copy it front/back) and is set up as follows:

Day 1: Brainstorm
Students are given a prompt or topic for the week. These usually relate to the essential question or weekly concept from Wonders. Students should brainstorm ideas related to the topic.

Day 2: Details
Students will choose one of their ideas from their brainstorm list, and they will work on the body of their paragraph. They should focus on the “meat” or the “middle” of their paragraph. Encourage students to be as specific and detailed as they can when they write their sentences.

Day 3: Intro and Closing
Now that students have written the body of their paragraph, they should look at what these details have in common. This will help them write a good topic sentence to introduce their paragraph and a closing sentence to sum up what was written.

Day 4: Final Paragraph
Encourage students to reread their sentences from days 2 and 3. Edit them for capitalization and punctuation. Revise them to add any more details, descriptive words, etc. Students can now combine all their writing together to form one final paragraph.

Each unit is also sold separately in my store.
