I've always found that my students are really interested in the Seven Wonders of the World. In this lesson students are given one of the current wonders: Chichen Itza, Machu Picchu, Petra, Christ Redeemer, the Great Wall of China, the Colosseum, or the Great Pyramid of Giza (an honorary member). They research their "wonder" and then write a postcard to someone as if they just visited it. Included are a lesson plan, a rubric, a research table, and a chart for summarizing information on all of the "wonders." Also provided are images of each site that students can cut out and glue to one side of a note card. (Making it really look like a postcard!)
This is a creative and fun assignment that is perfect for the beginning of the year or can connect to units on Egypt, Rome, India, China, the Maya, or the Inca.
