This is a project based on Brian Selnick's novel Wonderstruck. In Part 1 of the novel, Ben reads in a book about cabinets of wonder. They were small exhibits of a sort, where people would put collections of things. Ben realizes that he might be a museum curator because of his collection. For this project, students will create their own cabinet of wonder. They should pick a topic and put 10 items inside of a box that helps describe their chosen topic. They will also use their topic to write an essay. Included in the guideline are questions that should be answered in the essay. Included in this document is a project outline, a sheet for them to list the items included in the box, and a rubric. I would suggest giving the students about a month to complete this project, and then taking a class period to allow the students to view the cabinets of their peers.
