Students will begin this assignment by watching the U.S. Presidents Series Video: Woodrow Wilson (on YouTube). The video will introduce the time period and go over the key themes and events of Woodrow Wilson's presidency. his video will first analyze what kind of person Wilson was, an academic with the power of the spoken word. The election of 1912 is studied as are the accomplishments of Wilson's first term. A large portion of the video is dedicated to Wilson's second term and America's involvement in World War 1. Woodrow Wilson's involvement with the Treaty of Versailles and his idea of the League of Nations is reviewed as is the eventual failure of the treaty to be passed by the United States Congress and Wilson's disappointment. The video concludes by discussing Wilson's ailment and how his wife attempted to keep his deteriorating condition under wraps. Following the video, students will proceed to the History.com website and read a biographical article about Woodrow Wilson. His early years, time in academia, and the election of 1912 are again covered. The article takes more time to look at the more domestic issues of his presidency and his accomplishments but also covers the Treaty of Versailles in great detail.
