Woodrow Wilson's 14 Points Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- This is a 10 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 21 questions based on a tutorial video and the website: militaryhistory.about.com
Students will begin this assignment by watching the tutorial video: The 14 Points Explained. The video will introduce the time period and go over the key themes and events of the time. Woodrow Wilson and his belief in a peaceful solution to World War 1, and his need to sell America's entry into the war to the American public are both explained as key reasons behind the 14 points. The video then goes on to explain how the Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War 1, ignored a lot of the 14 points due to anger with Germany and the European powers wanting to punish the Germans. The failure of the Treaty of Versailles back in America is covered also, since Congress would not ratify it because the League of Nations would be given the ability to declare war, superseding Congress. Following the video, students will proceed to an online reading which covers more of Wilson's inability to get the European powers on board with his beliefs. The article also contains the full text of Wilson's 14 Points. To complete the assignment, students are taken to another website which has a simplified version of the 14 Points for them to copy down which can then be used as an easy set of study notes.
This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
