This product offers an educational experience which can be safely implemented by any woods teacher or substitute woods teacher, regardless of the substitute's training in the woodshop.
WHAT WILL I GET WITH THIS PRODUCT?
The digital download contains all the material needed to cover up to 2 days of instruction in a Woods/Tech-Ed class. Instructor/substitute directions, student directions and student handouts are provided.
This is the first in a series of lessons on Common Woods you will work with and find in finished products. In Day/Activity 1, Background Research: Students will read about and research (online) the different types of Oak wood. They will fill in a "Graphic Map" for what they find for each species of wood.
In Day/Activity 2, Applications: Students will watch a free educational video on PBS and write down instances where the presenter mentions/applies concepts from their filled in "Graphic Maps".
WHAT DO I NEED IN ORDER TO USE THIS PRODUCT?
All files are Word Documents. In Day/Activity 1, students will need access to computers/devices with online access. In Day/Activity 2, the class will need access to the main computer/projector in order to play an online video. (alternatively students could be told to bring earbuds if in a one-on-one computer setting).
This activity can be pre-printed and left in a folder "Ready-to-Go" for instructor illness/emergency substitutes.
