Do you have students/clients who love dogs? They will LOVE this unit all about our furry canine companions!
This is a great packet for an animal/pet week at school or in the clinic. Included in this unit are activities to target WH questions, early grammatical markers such as -ing verbs, 'be' verbs, and pronouns, receptive and expressive categories, math concepts (quantitative concepts, graphing, counting) and Cariboo cards to target other basic concepts such as qualitative, spatial, and size. It also includes activities to target articulation. Activities using dot markers, playdough, graphing, coloring, and interactive books are all part of this pack. Download the preview to get a better glimpse of what is included!
Sort dog bones into correct dog bowls and feed the dog certain items by listening for a category. Use playdough on a page with category naming puppy paws. Activites to target both receptive and expressive categorizing skills are included!
Want more playdough pages? Four more are included- two are open-ended, and two are full of pictures of dogs doing different activities. Target pronouns, 'be' verbs, and -ing verbs using these!
Target quantitative concepts with dog graphing activities. Talk about concepts such as "more" "less" "most" "least" and "equal" as you go through the activity. One graphing page uses different color paws that lend itself perfectly to working on blends!
Other basic concepts can be practiced using the Cariboo concepts card. Included is a list of instructions/a list of which spatial, qualitative, and quantitative concepts are included. Puppy action Cariboo cards are included, as well, so you can continue targeting pronouns/-ing verbs not only with playdough, but with Cariboo, too!
For open-ended activities to target articulation or any other area, a roll & cover page, the aforementioned playdough pages, and a card game are all included. Additionally, blank dog bones are included to feed the tissue box dog as a reinforcer, as well.
A fan of dot markers? You're covered on that, end, too! A "Dot-the-Answer" WH-question page all about dogs is included, too.
Your students will especially LOVE the 3 interactive books included to work on WH questions, too! Target "where" and "who" questions with "Molly's Day Out," a cute story about a border collie named Molly who visits various places and meets a lot of different people on her day around town.
Target "who" questions, farm animal vocabulary, and inferences with "Bruce's Day on the Farm," a story about a black lab named Bruce who visits the farm and meets a lot of different animals. But, the animals are hiding so you'll have to use some basic inferencing skills to help Bruce guess who is hiding behind the barn on every other page!
Learn a little bit about different dog breeds and what they are known for with the third fun interactive book in this packet, "All Kinds of Dogs."This book is a fun way to incorporate some non-fiction reading into your sessions and would be a great way to target some simple listening comprehension tasks with some younger elementary students. Visual cues are included on each page within the text to help your students follow along and increase comprehension.
