This lesson was created to help young students explore sound effects, both in making the noise themselves and creating the sound effect on a chosen instrument. It incorporates movement, sound making, and instrument performance. I have included notes and suggestions on using the activity. This is an animated PowerPoint presentation.
Some notes from the lesson plan:
The first few slides can be used to teach students motions for each sound effect. Next, I recommend reading the poem with/to your students. Then, add the sound effects and motions to the poem. Finally, have an assortment of instruments ready. Allow students to select an instrument that they feel could take the place of one of the sound effects. Depending on age, allow students to evaluate their own performance and the others’ performance.
