Students can use these 20 task cards to review word analysis strategies (aligned with Reading SOL 4.4). The task cards are modeled after the end-of-year SOL Reading test. Students can use these task cards independently, with a partner, or in a small group. They will record their answers on an answer sheet and check their work using an answer key (both are provided). This is a great activity for centers, early finishers, review, and morning work.
SOL 4.4a: use context to clarify meanings of unfamiliar words and phrases*
SOL 4.4b: use knowledge of roots and affixes*
SOL 4.4b: use knowledge of synonyms and antonyms*
SOL 4.4b: use knowledge of homophones
SOL 4.4c: use word-reference materials including the glossary, dictionary, and thesaurus*
*The Virginia DOE suggested that students need extra practice with these standards (according to 2013-2014 reading test data).
Directions for preparation and use are included.
