Create a pathway to fluent written expression by introducing students to transitions. There are SO many transitional words and phrases to use that it can be overwhelming for some students (and teachers!). Try starting with this list of choices that are easy to incorporate into various genres of writing (both daily writing and planned pieces).
Quick tip: I encourage my students to highlight transitions whenever they use them. This visual cue allows students to evaluate whether or not they are incorporating enough (or too many) transitions.
