Give each child (or team) a “Word Buddies” game mat.
Each student needs to draw 4 “category tiles” and place them at the bottom of their mat.
All of the word tiles need to be placed faced down in the center of the table.
How to Play
**The winner is the player with the most complete groups at the end of the play time.**
Set a timer for 10 minutes (or longer depending on how long you want to play)
The first player or team spins the spinner, and draws the correct amount of word tiles from the center of the table. Or does what the spinner says.
Example: Player A lands on “draw 2 tiles”, Player A then draws 2 tiles.
Example: Player B lands on “Steal a tile.” Player B can steal a tile from a teammate—no matter if the word connects or not.
If the tile(s) match a category, the player may place it on their “Word Buddies” game mat. They must read the word(s) correctly, and explain how it fits.
If the tile(s) does not fit, they must return the tile(s) to the center of the table
If a student cannot correctly explain a connection, he or she must return the tile(s).
Play continues in clockwise fashion until time expires.
