Practice building words with beginning consonants, beginning blends and word families - mix and match the 66 double domino cards to match your instructional goals.
Simply print, laminate and cut the domino cards apart. An optional recording sheet can be printed to record individual student work.
For a single student use: select a manageable assortment of cards and challenge the student to form words until all the cards are used.
For 2-4 students, play like regular dominoes.
For a large group or whole class play, place one card face up in the center. Have each student in turn draw a card. With the help of other students, he/she should form a word. Continue until all the domino cards have been used.
Pages 2-8 (with only the alphabet in the center) contain the easiest combinations (38 word families), and a balanced set of 48 cards for small group use.
Pages 9 &10 (alphabet with star outline) contain 12 cards using 12 additional word families for use with larger groups.
Pages 11 & 12 (alphabet with solid star) add 12 more cards with 2-letter beginning blends and the word families most frequently used with those blends. For a more challenging game these can be used as replacements for some of the easiest cards, or simply added to accommodate more players.
Kids love making their word grid bigger and bigger, and you'll love the word practice this versatile activity provides.
