These very same activities with additional forms for your sub teacher are found in my store: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Word-Building-Compounds-Prefixes-and-Suffixes-2981931
Students will read about compound words. They will “break down” compound words to recognize root words. They will make an ABC Book of Compound Words and a Compound Word Collection Book to extend practice.
Students will read about prefixes and suffixes. They will generate sentences with root words using the prefixes: “un,” “pre,” “re,” “dis,” “mis,” “in,” and “im.” They will generate sentences with root words using the suffixes: “able,” “ful,” “en,” and “er.” They will construct charts matching prefixes and suffixes to various root words and recognize that certain root words (do, fill, write, …) can use more than one prefix and/or suffix (i.e. “undo,” “redo,” “unfillable,” “refillable,” “pretest,” “retest,” etc)
Students will search for compound words and words with prefixes and suffixes inside a reading comprehension passage.
