**This is included in the Building Great Spellers & Readers Bundle.**
Building a good foundation in phonemic awareness will likely produce good readers.
It is estimated that the vast majority of students, more than 90%, with significant reading problems have a core deficit in their ability to process sounds.
Phonological awareness is an umbrella, so to speak, over six developmental levels:
Word Awareness or Word Building begins with phoneme awareness and manipulation. Multi-Sensory activities accessing the Auditory, Visual and Kinesthetic pathways for learning.
The activities included in this “Word Building” packet
are designed to focus on phoneme awareness in the Sound Flaps activity. The “SLAP!” activities build on phonemic manipulation and progress into word building.
I encourage you to allow your child or student(s) to take their time through these activities. Review over the beginning sounds flaps until student achieves automaticity with individual sounds.
Also, ask for student to identify medial and final sounds, for a challenge. You may want to discuss the various spellings for some final sounds, such as (k) spellings – ck, k & c.
My Spelling Rule Reminder Cards would be helpful in explaining the IMF spelling rules for this activity and with the SLAP! activities., as well.
Directions and pictures for all the Word Building activities are included throughout this packet.
Enjoy building a solid foundation for your child or student(s) toward becoming a successful reader and speller.!!
