This is a set of four independent Word Work centers that work well with Daily Five centers or any type of reading/writing centers. They also work well for students who have finished assignments early and need something to do. These centers are designed to allow students to work independently (after each center has been introduced and practiced whole-class one time). These are great activities for students to work on while you are working with a guided reading group. Just keep them in stock in a central location in your classroom and students can work independently!
- "Spelling Word Shopping" - students must add how much each word costs to "buy." Integrated spelling, addition, and money.
- "Spelling Sentences" - a simple recording sheet for students to write each of their spelling words in a sentence.
- "Dictionary Dig" - requires a dictionary for each child who is doing the center. The student looks up each vocabulary word and records the meaning, then generates a sentence using that word.
- "Vocabulary Quilt" - a student chooses up to 6 vocabulary, spelling, or sight words, draws a picture that he/she associates with each word to help remember the meaning (great for visual learners), then generates a sentence using that word.
