Description

Word Choice Craftivity: We teachers are always reminding our students to use interesting word choice when writing. This one-day craftivity lesson is intended to be a memorable activity that will "drive the point home" for our students. The completed craftivities can be hung in the classroom for students to use while they revise their writing. The pieces can also be glued into interactive notebooks for future student reference.

Students begin by completing a worksheet. The worksheet contains 16 sentences with dull words underlined. Students must replace the dull word with an interesting word (8 vivid verbs and 8 awesome adjectives)!

When the worksheet has been completed, students begin to assemble the craftivity. Student-friendly directions (with a photo) are included so that you can place the directions under your document camera, and students can refer to them as they complete the project.

A link to a Google Slides version of this activity is included on page 8 of the PDF. This version contains sixteen slides (one sentence on each slide). A dull word is written on the gray paint can. Students must write a more "colorful" word on the colored paint can. Then, they rewrite the sentence in the text box, using their new word.
